urban retreat

The Urban Retreat project expresses the client’s values that open space and daylight take priority over possessions. Wilson-Haus helped the clients navigate away from traditional plan configurations in favor of starting with how they wanted to feel and live in the space. Split over two floors, the clients expressed a desire for the lower level to serve as a multipurpose luxury suite. The goal was to create a space for the couple, who travelled regularly, that rivaled the best hotel suites in the world. Anchored by a central headboard element, the open plan allows the couple to connect and reflect about their day from the tub, bed or adjacent sitting area.

Meanwhile, the upper level serves as a metaphor for the client’s cabin getaway. Rather than continuing their search for affordable, hard-to-find waterfront property in the Pacific Northwest, the clients elected to create their cabin retreat on the upper floor. There, the main open space afford dramatic views of Elliot Bay and the treetops of the London Planes that populate Seattle’s historic district.
